Senior Medicare Patrol

The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) mission is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, abuse, and errors through outreach, counseling, and education. All the Senior Medicare Patrol programs across the country are grant-funded projects from the Administration for Community Living (ACL), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Wisconsin SMP program is housed at the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWAAR). GWAAR is a nonprofit agency committed to supporting the successful delivery of aging programs and services throughout Wisconsin. It provides aging lead agencies with training, technical assistance, and advocacy to ensure the availability and quality of programs and services to meet the changing needs of older people in Wisconsin. SMP is pleased to be a part of this statewide organization.

SMP is in every county across Wisconsin. And our volunteers play a vital role in carrying out this mission to be in every county across Wisconsin. Volunteer involvement ranges from distributing materials, staffing a booth at fairs and outreach events, to giving group presentations.
