Volunteer: Seeking Mentors!

We are looking for caring, responsible individuals to become defenders of youth potential by volunteering to be mentors with our organization!

This one-on-one mentoring opportunity is intended to make a substantial, positive impact on a child's life for the better, forever. **Please note: The children that we serve are typically at-risk and come from low-income and single-parent households. We ask for a minimum 12-month commitment and that you connect with your Little two to four times monthly. We have found that mentoring relationships are more beneficial to the child when their mentor is consistent, caring, and stands by their Little for over a year.

Ever wonder about becoming a Big or Big Couple? It's easier than you think to change a life: connect a couple of times a month to share life experiences and have FUN! Go swimming, take a hike, throw a football, ride bikes, go to a movie or baseball game, or challenge your Little in your favorite video game. The possibilities are endless, and once you begin, our professional program staff is always here to support you with consistent communication, coaching, and resources, and hosting fun, free activities for you and your Little can just show up and enjoy! Agency: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the 7 Rivers Region

It Takes Little to Be Big!

Opportunities are available throughout our service area in Southeast Minnesota and Southwest Wisconsin. If you're interested or just have a few questions before you commit, let us know. We're here to help and we're here to change lives for the better, forever!

Volunteer: Volunteer First Responder

We are a volunteer group in West Salem, WI that provides EMS coverage for the Village of West Salem, Town of Barre, and Town of Hamilton. We have been providing this service since 1986.  We respond to medical calls as needed, when paged out, 24/7/365. We average about 1.5 calls/day.

We are looking for volunteers that are in the medical field, who would be interested in getting volunteer hours while helping the community.  If you are certified as a first responder, EMT, paramedic, nurse, doctor, or any similar license we want you to join our team!  This is a great way to get some hands on experience and see what the real world has to offer and gets you that experience you need for your career path.

If you do not have any certifications, you are still able to do our ride along program.  This involves riding along to the calls, and observing what we do, but you would not be able to be hands on. This is a good way to find out if this field is for you.

There is no set schedule to follow.  You are able to put yourself on call, when you are able.  All we ask is you try and put in 48 hours a month.

Responding to an emergency medical call requires a fast response.  Because of this, you would be required to be in West Salem so you can get to the station in a timely manner.  We do offer college students the ability to spend the day/night at the station.  A great time to get homework and studying done.  We have a full bathroom, and even a washing machine and dryer.

If you are interested or have any other questions, please contact us.

We need your help!

Volunteer: Household Item Donations Needed

Western Dairyland's Housing Services is currently searching for home furnishings and basic living donations for our upcoming new clients.

These items can include furniture, small appliances, cleaning supplies, and any other common household items.

When donating items, especially beds and cloth furniture, please make sure they do not have bed bugs and that the item is in useable condition.

If you would like to donate, you can arrange a time to bring in donations with our volunteer coordinator, Brooke Frion. If they are furniture items they will need to be dropped off at one of our storage units, as we do not have a truck to move these items.

All donations could benefit you during taxes, as we are a non-profit business.

Volunteer: CC English, teach English online!

CC English is a new, innovative way to connect volunteer English teachers with students via online, one-on-one English classes using the Confidence and Connections curriculum developed by the non-profit, Intercambio Uniting Communities. CC English was launched in July 2020 with the goal of providing high-quality online English education and connecting individuals. We are an organization that provides English language education, tools, and training to participants to foster meaningful connections, increase cultural understanding, and instill confidence. We are looking for volunteers to teach online classes to adult English language learners for 90-minute sessions once or twice a week, a volunteering and learning opportunity that can be done in the comfort of one's home with just internet access and a computer/tablet/smartphone. Our goal is to connect English speakers wanting to make a difference with community members aspiring to learn English, regardless of location or other barriers of in-person classes. We see potential and good in everyone who participates in our program. We offer a welcoming, accessible, safe, and enjoyable environment and we would love to have you on our team!

Help us shape the future of English learning and promote cross-cultural connections across the nation!

Volunteer requirements:

What you DON'T need:

- You do not need any prior teaching experience.

- You do not need to speak a language other than English.

What you DO need:

- Availability to meet with a student online regularly. We recommend that you meet with your student twice a week for at least 60-90 minutes each meeting. (Note: the books are designed to take about 8 weeks to complete if you are meeting two times per week for 90 minutes each time. If you cannot commit to that much time, you will progress through our program more slowly.)

- Willingness and ability to attend your scheduled sessions. Students are paying a monthly fee of $25 to participate in CC English, so they are relying on your commitment and dependability.

- Reliable internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone. - Enthusiasm, flexibility, and patience.

- You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer.

What you get:

- The CC English platform will match you with an adult learner that matches your gender and availability. - The platform will also provide you with:

--Access to digital versions of our Confidence and Connections curriculum. --An initial online training video and access to additional training resources.

--Tools to track and manage your class and students' progress.

--Discussion forums that allow you to connect and share ideas with other volunteer teachers,

--Additional resources and tools to support your progress and ongoing connection with your student.

Cost:

- CC English volunteers are charged a $30 training and resources fee to participate in the program. This fee helps cover costs associated with training, developing resources, administration, and matching you with your student.

- We will only charge one registration fee, even if you are matched with more than one student during the time you teach with us. Your training and resources fee will be refunded within the first 30 days if you are not satisfied or if we cannot successfully match you with a student. Requesting a refund will cancel your access to the CC English platform, the digital curriculum, and any of the teaching resources.

*CC English is a program of Intercambio, a nonprofit organization that has taught over 10,000 adult English learners over the last two decades.
