Bluff Country Family Resources has adopted a stretch of Highway 16 between Hokah & Houston, MN. We have a scheduled clean up day coming up and would love for volunteers to assist with this project. Vest and trash bags will be provided. Additional details are below.

Plan ahead
- Volunteers should be in good physical health and mentally alert using good common sense about the safety of self and others.
- Volunteers should have an up-to-date tetanus shot.
- Do not bring any pets with you.
- All participants engaging in any Adopt a Highway activities must be at least 12 years of age and sign a permission slip.
- Every volunteer needs to wear an AAH safety vest at all times.
- Wear work clothes, heavy gloves, work boots or leather shoes, hat, long sleeves and long pants, sunscreen, insect/tick repellent.
- Bring water and a cell phone.
Guidelines when picking trash
- Bring and wear your own gloves and use a trash picking tool whenever possible.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth while picking trash.
- After trash picking is complete, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol or disinfectant wipes.
- Do not volunteer if you are sick.
Safety first, safety always.
- Volunteers should not pick up litter on medians between roadways, median on or off ramps, center of roundabouts, bridges, in tunnels, on overpasses or around other structures that may pose a danger.
- If a volunteer finds a weapon, DO NOT touch it.Call 911 to report it.
- Be aware of ticks, snakes and other animals you may encounter during the pick.
- Avoid poison ivy, wild parsnips, or other noxious weeds.
- Stay away from recently applied herbicides.
- Avoid abandoned containers, regulated waste and hazardous materials - DO NOT TOUCH
